COLERAINE eye a spot in the last four of the BetMcLean Cup as they are the visitors to Moyola Park this evening (KO 7:45pm)…

BETMCLEAN CUP QUARTER-FINAL

Overview:

Coleraine returned to winning ways in the Sports Direct Premiership after a 2-0 win against Crusaders at Seaview. An acrobatic overhead kick by Jamie Glackin put the Bannsiders infront at the break, with Jamie McGonigle’s late strike confirming all three points. Ruaidhri Higgins’ men reached the last-eight stage after wins against Dollingstown and Armagh City.

Moyola Park are managed by former Coleraine U20s coach Marty Smith and they played out a scoreless draw against Portstewart in the Premier Intermediate League last weekend. The Park are top of the table in the third-tier and have beaten Portstewart, Annagh United and Dungannon Swifts in the competition so far. They have also progressed into the third round of the Intermediate Cup and the fifth round of the Irish Cup.

Previous Meetings:

Coleraine and Moyola Park met in the quarter-final of the North-West Senior Cup last season.

  • September 3, 2024 (NWC) – Coleraine 2 (Brolly ’14 mins & Gibson ’85 mins); Moyola Park 2 (McAuley ’36 mins & Clarke ’43 mins)
    *Coleraine won 5-4 on penalties*

Manager’s Thoughts:

“They’ve earned the right to be in the quarter-final,” said Higgins.

“They had a brilliant win against Dungannon in the last round.

“If you can beat Dungannon, then you’re a good side. They’re littered with loads of Irish League experience in their team.

“They’ll get our full respect, we’ll go to Myola and try and get ourselves into a semi-final of a cup.

It’s a really good tournament now, there’s a lot at stake and it’s important that we progress and get into the semi-final.”

Officials:

The match referee will be Shane McGonigle.

The assistant referees are Rachel Greer and Jason Millar.

Declan Hassan has been appointed as the fourth official.
