COLERAINE begin the defence of the North-West Senior Cup this evening as Newbuildings United visit the Ballycastle Road (KO 8pm)…
NORTH-WEST SENIOR CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Overview:
Coleraine were not in action last weekend after their home game against Linfield in the Premiership was postponed due to the Blues’ European exploits. Boss Ruaidhri Higgins has hinted that tonight’s game may provide opportunities for first-team players who need minutes, as well as those in the club’s Academy to gain senior experience. Coleraine go into this year’s tournament as the holders after beating Ballinamallard United in the final.
Newbuildings currently ply their trade in Division 1 of the Ballymena & Provincial Football League. They started their campaign with a narrow defeat to Ballymoney United last weekend. Christopher Wallace’s men will face Strabane Athletic in the quarter-final of the Craig Memorial Cup, Banbridge Rangers in the second round of the Irish Cup and Seapatrick in the first round of the Intermediate Cup.
Manager’s Thoughts:
“It is going to be a mix of established senior players and those in the under-age squads,” Higgins said.
“We haven’t played a competitive game since Glenavon and there’s players who need minutes…so they will be in contention.
“There are others who have played a lot of football since pre-season and were likely needing of a short break, so they won’t be involved.
“Supporters will also have a chance to look at some of our young exciting talent at the club.
“It’s a game we are taking seriously and we will go as strong as possible.”

The match referee will be Declan Hassan
The assistant referees are Gavin Hegarty and Simon Mackay.
