DECLAN McManus was a delighted special guest as Coleraine Cougars Special Olympics Club held their end-of-season party…
Hosted at the Social Club last Friday evening, the Coleraine striker presented medals and trophies, before enjoying the fun with everyone there present.
Speaking about the Coleraine Cougars Special Olympics Club and their progress this year, Tony Murray, chairperson, said: “Our club offers training and competition in basketball for children and adults with an intellectual disability. Founded in 2012, we’ve just finished our 13th season.
“Our athletes compete every year in competition with other clubs in Ulster. Our skilled athletes take part in individual competition and we have two teams that compete in the Special Olympics Ulster League.
“Our A team came second in Division 1 and our B team won their division. This year both teams also took part in an advancement competition that will lead to athletes being offered the opportunity to represent Ulster at the Ireland Games to be held in Dublin in June 2026. The Ulster squad will be selected in early July. Our A team won silver medals in this competition and our B team won gold medals.
“Declan presented medals to all our athletes at our end-of-season awards party. He also presented trophies to a number of our athletes, recognising their achievements this season.
“A huge thank you to Coleraine FC for offering us the use of the McKendry Suite and to Declan for joining us to celebrate another great season for Coleraine Cougars both on and off the court.”
Everyone at Coleraine FC congratulates the Coleraine Cougars Special Olympics Club for their success and wishes them the best of luck in the future.
