Midfielders move on

COLERAINE FC can today confirm that midfielders Dean Shiels and Cormac Burke have both departed the club…

Shiels joined the club in January 2019 and scored on his debut against Dergview in the Irish Cup.

In total, the former Arsenal trainee made 12 appearances for the Bannsiders and scored three goals in all competitions.

In an emotional farewell, the ex-Northern Ireland international paid tribute to everyone involved at the club.

“I want to take this opportunity to wish Coleraine FC all the best for the rest of the season,” he said.

“At this time I see my career taking me in a new direction, but I didn’t want to leave without thanking the fans, and all those behind the scenes, for the support I’ve received during my time at the club.

“Coleraine FC has close ties to my family and I’ve had a personal connection with the club since I was a young boy.

“I will be looking out for their result every week and wish everyone involved all the best for the future.”

Stripes boss Oran Kearney wished Shiels the very best for the next chapter of his football career.

“He is a top man, a very good professional and I appreciate the drive to progress to the next part of his career.”

Meanwhile, the club can also confirm that Cormac Burke has joined North-West neighbours Institute.

The midfielder – who signed for the club in January 2019 – made his debut against Dungannon Swifts on February 5.

In total, Burke made nine appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal in the process against Newry City.

Everyone at Coleraine FC would like to thank Cormac for his contribution and wishes him well for the future.
