COLERAINE FC is thrilled to announce the signing of Rowan McDonald from Waterford FC for an undisclosed fee…
The 23-year-old, who is comfortable in a few different roles both defensively and in midfield, has put pen-to-paper on a long-term deal to become our final addition this summer.
McDonald, who hails from Oldham, started his career at Manchester City where he won the U18 Premier League and U18 Premier League Cup twice each, the FA Youth Cup in 2020, as well as the Premier League 2 three times.
McDonald signed professional forms at the Etihad in 2022 and represented England U18s on two occasions.
After leaving English football, McDonald travelled across the Irish Sea and signed for Waterford FC, helping the Blues gain promotion back to the top flight of the League of Ireland.
Boss Ruaidhri Higgins commented: “Rowan is versatile and we have a few different roles in mind for him.
“He is a tough boy, he has excellent quality and is a good character.
“He’s still only 23-years-old and he’s going to play a big part in what we’re trying to do here.
“Rowan is someone I’ve always liked and I nearly signed him when I was at Derry City and he’s a player our staff really like also.”
