My Top Ten: Aaron Jarvis

COLERAINE midfielder Aaron Jarvis has shortlisted his top ten favourite footballers of all time…

In a new series, colerainefc.com will be asking current first-team stars to narrow down ten players and explain the reasons for their inclusion.

It should come as no surprise that there was a few central midfielders listed.

10 – Luka Modric

Technically he’s one of the best I’ve seen. He can do everything in terms of passing, shooting, dribbling, scoring goals and providing assists. What a player.

9 – Cristiano Ronaldo

Not much needs to be said about him. Growing up and watching play was a joy. He can do everything and everything – the best ever! (After Messi?)

8 – Yaya Toure

A great player who was seriously under-rated. Runs from midfield, could score goals and provide assists. A total machine.

7 – Steven Gerrard

Being a Manchester United fan I hate to say it but what a player, leader and captain he was. He pulled Liverpool out of some serious situations during his career.

6 – Wayne Rooney

Again growing up and watching him play with Ronaldo was great. What a team United had for a few years with those two – another goal machine.

5 – Ronaldinho

What a player. He was a class act. I remember watching him play at The Brandywell against Derry City in a friendly when I was younger.

4 – Roy Keane

One of the main players I watched growing up. He loved a good tackle and was a leader.

3 – Lionel Messi

No words, the best ever!

2 – Andres Iniesta

He had everything, couldn’t get the ball off him and he could find the back of the net as well. What a player he was.

1 – Paul Scholes

Growing up I always tried to base my own game around him. He was a great passer, a good tackler and could seriously hit a ball. He didn’t get enough praise that he deserved – the best English midfielder at that time? I think so, but some might think I’m biased.
