National Football Awards set to be the biggest yet

THE Ulster Footballer of the Year Awards, now in its 68th edition, promises to be the biggest yet, when it welcomes the country’s top stars to the Titanic Hotel in Belfast on Monday, April 23rd…

Cool FM favourite Pete Snodden will host the prestigious event and is looking for a lucky winner to bring along as his guests. The radio station’s listeners can be in with a chance of landing two tickets to the lavish event and meeting their football heroes on the night, plus a fabulous overnight stay in the Titanic Hotel.

Official media partners Cool FM will formally launch the event on air, across their social media channels and on the weekly Danske Bank Premiership Show, hosted by Pete and featuring guests from across the Irish League.

Five individual award categories will be presented on the night, including the inaugural Women’s Footballer of the Year, sponsored by Cool FM, to shine the spotlight on the country’s talented female players and in recognition of the growing popularity of the women’s game.

The award categories, supported by Betty’s Pub and Kitchen in Holywood and Bangor, include:

  • Disability Footballer of the Year
  • Young Footballer of the Year
  • Women’s Footballer of the Year
  • Dr Malcolm Brodie Lifetime Achievement Award
  • Ulster Footballer of the Year

“We’re very excited to be launching the Ulster Footballer of the Year Awards for 2018, which has become one of the most sought after accolades in the local game,” Bobby Carlisle, previous recipient and chair of the judging panel, said today. “We are delighted to have Betty’s Pub and Kitchen on board this year as our sponsors, and Cool FM as our official media partner. We are also able to give two fans the chance to celebrate alongside their Premiership heroes, and enjoy a luxury overnight stay in one of Belfast’s superior hotels.”

Ballymena United and former double-treble winning Linfield manager David Jeffrey, referee top-dog Alan Snoddy, Glentoran hero of yesteryear Billy Sinclair and ex-Linfield skipper and Irish League great Lindsay McKeown will be calling the winners alongside BBC’s Joel Taggart and Stephen Watson, Belfast Telegraph sports editor Jim Gracey and sports correspondent Steven Beacom, Daily Mirror’s Darren Fullerton, The Sun correspondent Mark McIntosh, UTV’s Ruth Gorman and BBC Radio Ulster’s Liam Beckett.
