Official Coleraine Podcast: Episode 11

THIS week’s Official Coleraine Podcast welcomed former player and Cliftonville ‘Hall of Fame’ inductee John Platt on the show…

A Solitude Hall of Famer (he was inducted in May 2019), John was once one of the Irish League’s most feared strikers and was a goalscorer in the 1979 Irish Cup win over Portadown.

His striking prowess over six seasons for the Reds – he scored 99 goals in 190 appearances – remains the stuff of legend amongst the Red Army.

Although he only spent one season at The Showgrounds, John certainly made his mark, banging in 13 goals in 22 appearances under manager Victor Hunter.

So, with Coleraine hosting the Reds this weekend we asked John for his views on the current Irish League scene, his fond memories of his playing days and how life is treating him after retiring as Headmaster from Millburn Primary School a few years ago.

The show is hosted by Damian Mullan, with panellists Aaron O’Neill and Jonathan McNabb also giving their input.
