Ogilby: ‘It’s a good place to be at the minute’

COLERAINE defender David Ogilby speaks to the club website after the Bannsiders sealed a 2-1 win over Linfield at The Showgrounds…

The big central defender was presented with the man of the match award from sponsor Cuil Coffee and admits the players are on a ‘winning habit’ as Coleraine stretched their unbeaten run to ten games.

“We are really enjoying our football at the minute, we are on a habit of winning and the confidence is high, it’s a good place to be at the minute,” Ogilby said.

“We believe on our day we can beat any team in this league, and we have proved that this season.

“There was nothing between the two teams in the first half.

“Linfield are the champions and a great side, so we knew we wouldn’t get it easy.

“It was all about being patient, it was going to take a moment of brilliance or a mistake to change things.

“We scored a header then conceded a header, but we showed great character to keep going.

“At the end of last season we went one up against Linfield then got beat 5-1!

“So those scars were maybe still there. We showed great resilience today, we didn’t fold, we kicked on again looking for the winner and thankfully we got it.”

The former Institute man acknowledged he didn’t know if the ball crossed the line, but is happy to get the rub of the green.

“It was good build up from Joe McCready and Darren McCauley initially,” Ogilby added.

“I have no idea if it was over the line or not, obviously there was big protests, but the main thing for us is the referee gave it.

“Sometimes they go against you. I have had plenty over my career, that’s sport, thankfully today it went for us.

“If it had ended up 1-1 I would have probably said it was a fair result.

“But we have a real belief, we keep going, and if you keep working hard sometimes you get that wee bit of luck.”

Ogilby believes it is to early to discuss title challengers and reveals the squad are ‘hungry’ to secure as many points as possible.

“We aren’t even thinking about leagues at this stage of the season,” Ogilby said.

“We are enjoying it at the minute and hungry for three points, and as defenders we are hungry for clean sheets.

“I’ve been in this league long enough not to get carried away, there’s a long winter ahead.

“There will be ups and downs and it is about how you respond to them.”
