Ogilby: ‘Winning is a habit and we are full of confidence’

DEFENDER David Ogilby speaks to colerainefc.com after helping the Bannsiders secure a 3-0 win over Carrick Rangers at The Showgrounds…

The centre-half opened the scoring on the half hour mark, before Darren McCauley’s brace sealed all three points for the Stripes’ seventh win in a row.

The home side also kept a clean sheet in successive games and Ogilby admits it is down to the whole team rather than the defence and goalkeeper.

“We are really solid all over the park,” Ogilby said.

“We conceded two goals against Glenavon a few weeks ago and Oran was rightfully hard on us even though we won.

“He wasn’t pleased we hadn’t kept enough clean sheets, so it’s been great to have achieved that in the past two matches.

“The players in front of us are helping the defence and the whole team are keeping the clean sheets.”

The former Institute man paid tribute to Coleraine ‘keeper Chris Johns and admits he is the best shot stopper he has played with during his time in the Irish League.

“I have played with a lot of goalkeepers in the Irish League over the years and Chris is the best,” Ogilby added.

“He is athletic and is improving year on year and I think he has a big future in front of him.

“He is a top ‘keeper and is head and shoulders above any I have played with.”

The 33-year-old revealed that the squad is ‘full of confidence’ and that everyone is enjoying training after winning seven successive games.

“Winning is a habit and we are a full of confidence,” the defender confessed..

“Going to training is easy at the minute, but we are still working hard and doing nothing different.

“We just have a belief in ourselves that we are going to win every Saturday, but we fully respect our opponents.”

The Bannsiders will turn their attentions to next weekend’s clash against Glentoran and Ogilby has been impressed with their start to the season.

“When you look at the league table, Glentoran are doing well,” Ogilby said.

“They have assembled a good, young squad and it’s coming together for them.

“It certainly won’t be easy, but it’s a game we are looking forward to.

“We are delighted with our 100% start to the season, but I’ve been about the league long enough to know there will be a lot of ups and downs.”

Ogilby wants to add more goals to his game after notching his first of the season last weekend, but has hailed the squad for providing goals from all over the pitch.

“I probably haven’t scored enough goals in the last couple of years,” Ogilby acknowledged.

“It is nice to get one today and it seems to be we are scoring goals from all over the park.

“It is good we aren’t relying on one person.”
