On Red Alert

COLERAINE welcome Cliftonville to The Showgrounds as the Sky Sports cameras roll into town this evening (KO 7:45pm)…

Danske Bank Premiership

Overview:

The Bannsiders recorded a victory last weekend against Warrenpoint Town as a hat-trick from Jamie Glackin and Matthew Fitzpatrick’s first goal for the club earned a 4-0 win at Milltown. As for Cliftonville, they have lost back-to-back games in the Danske Bank Premiership, but will be buoyed after a late comeback against Ballymena United sealed success in the County Antrim Shield.

Recent meetings:

Coleraine and Cliftonville met on the opening day of the season on the Ballycastle Road and Eoin Bradley’s effort looked like being enough to secure all three points for Oran Kearney’s men. However, on 89 minutes, a ball from Ryan Curran would find Joe Gormley unmarked inside the area and he found the bottom corner to steal a point for the Reds. Then, last month, Cliftonville would score another late goal against the Bannsiders but this time Conor McMenamin’s header earned the win for the North Belfast side.

Manager’s Thoughts:

“I think it will be a good game, I think there’s a huge amount of respect between the two clubs,” Kearney added.

“If I’m being honest I don’t think there was a huge amount of issues between the players (back in December), it was nearly stewards and others who came in to get involved that incited our players more than anything else.

“As I say there is a huge amount of respect between the teams.

“It’s water under the bridge now and there was no yellow cards dished out at the time.

“It was pretty much handbags and emotion more than anything else.

“It’s certainly not in our mind going into the game on Monday night, the only thing we’re focusing on is building on the win at Warrenpoint.”

Supporters with season tickets are advised that they can enter the ground using their cards.
