COLERAINE Women travelled to face Maiden City in what proved to be a closely contested encounter filled with energy, determination, and moments of real quality from both sides…

The match kicked off with both teams showing strong intent and composure, setting the tone early with fast-paced, end-to-end football. Coleraine struck first after a well-delivered free kick from Shairee McVey led to a scramble in the box, where Lindsay Norton reacted quickest to slot the ball into the back of the net, giving the visitors a deserved lead.

Maiden City responded with intensity, pressing high and creating chances of their own. Their persistence paid off just before the half-time whistle when they found the equaliser, ensuring the teams went into the break on level terms.

The second-half saw Coleraine’s superior fitness come into play as they maintained a high tempo throughout. Both sides remained disciplined and determined, battling for every ball. Chelsea Moore came agonisingly close to restoring Coleraine’s lead with a thunderous effort from the middle of the park, which narrowly missed out.

In the final stages, Coleraine’s defence held strong under pressure. Hailey Mathieson produced a series of outstanding saves to keep the scores level, showcasing resilience and composure right until the final whistle.

The match ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, a fair reflection of a game that highlighted the quality and spirit of both teams. A big thank you to Maiden City for hosting, and best of luck to them for the rest of the season.

Next up for the first-team is a home fixture against Lisbellaw United Ladies on Wednesday, May 7.
