Penalty decision irks OK

COLERAINE boss Oran Kearney believes his side had a strong appeal for a penalty turned down during yesterday’s 1-0 defeat to Glentoran at The Oval…

The Bannsiders lost on the road for the first time this season as Conor McMenamin’s second half goal did the damage in east Belfast.

Kearney remarked that the game panned out the way he was expecting with both teams cancelling each other out.

At the start of the second half, Kearney outlined that his players should have been awarded a spot kick as Matthew Shevlin went to ground inside the box after contact from Glentoran ‘keeper Aaron McCarey.

Despite falling behind to McMenamin’s 62nd minute strike, Kearney knows his side could have left with a share of the spoils as Michael McCrudden saw two chances come and go in the final 15 minutes.

The Stripes have a busy week ahead as they face Institute in the North-West Cup on Tuesday night before hosting Newry City in the Premiership three days later.
