ROWAN McDonald says his heart was set on a switch to the Coleraine Showgrounds after conversations with first-team boss Ruaidhri Higgins and his staff…

The 23-year-old has agreed a long-term deal to become the final arrival this summer after an undisclosed fee was struck with Waterford FC.

McDonald, who is a product of the Manchester City academy and played in the same team as Cole Palmer, admits that he can’t wait to get going after the deal got the green light.

He said: “I’m buzzing to be honest with you and looking forward to getting started.

“I know the gaffer really well and Conor Loughrey, so I know what the club is all about. I’d also be friendly with Will Patching who also joined in the summer.

“I definitely got a good education at Manchester City and hopefully I can bring that with me to Coleraine.”

So, what does the Oldham native know about football north of the border?

“I know a lot about the Irish League…I watched quite a few of the European qualifying games in the summer there, so I know some of the teams and players,” he added.

“It wasn’t an easy decision to leave Waterford but I know speaking to people at Coleraine, it’s a club that just fits.

“They know what I’m all about and vice-versa…so I’m just eager to get going.”
