Point to Prove

COLERAINE will hope to maintain their challenge at the top end of the table as they travel to Milltown tomorrow afternoon (KO 3pm)…

Danske Bank Premiership

Overview:

Coleraine come into the fixture on the back of last Friday night’s defeat to Crusaders as an early goal from Jordan Owens would prove to be the difference at The Showgrounds. Despite a better showing in the second-half, the Bannsiders failed to capitalise on opportunities as they were beaten on home soil for the first time this season. There has been steady progress at Milltown since Barry Gray took the reins for a second time and ‘Point are only a solitary point away from the foot of the table. They looked like grabbing a valuable three points against Glentoran last weekend until ‘keeper Mark Byrne was dismissed, which turned the game on its head as Robbie McDaid and Hrevoje Plum bagged two late goals for the East Belfast side.

Recent meetings:

This will be the third fixture between the two clubs this season with each side registering a victory. In October, a penalty from Ben Doherty had the Bannsiders well on their way, before Eoin Bradley netted a sublime free-kick before the break. There would be a late third from Doherty as he was on hand to pounce from close range after his penalty was saved by Berat Turker as Coleraine eased to all three points at The Showgrounds. However, a month later, it was top versus bottom as Warrenpoint inflicted a first defeat of the season on Coleraine as a brace from Alan O’Sullivan – either side of Jamie Glackin’s equaliser – put ‘Point ahead, before Brandon Doyle sealed the win in stoppage time.

Manager’s Thoughts:

“It will be a difficult game and we never get it easy at Milltown as the last time proved,” Kearney said.

“People laugh when you say that any team could beat another on their day, but Warrenpoint proved that in November.

“We are going to have to produce a top performance if we want to stay in this title race.”

Admission:

Admission for using a matchday card is £12 adults, £8 concessions.
