COLERAINE Women returned to league action last night as they hosted Lisbellaw in their second Division 2 fixture of the season…
Despite carrying a number of injuries from last week’s match, the home side displayed admirable grit and determination throughout a competitive encounter.
From the first whistle, both teams set the tone with high intensity and clear intent, battling for early dominance. The first-half proved to be a tightly contested affair, with Coleraine pressing forward and defending resolutely, matching Lisbellaw’s energy stride for stride. However, just before the half, Lisbellaw found a breakthrough to take a 1-0 lead.
Going into the second-half, the goal sparked a spirited response from Coleraine, who began to press higher up the pitch and take more risks in attack. Unfortunately, a well-executed corner from Lisbellaw extended the visitors’ advantage to two goals.
As the match wore on, the effects of Coleraine’s injuries began to show, and a well-timed through ball allowed Lisbellaw to slot home a third.
Despite the setback, Coleraine’s determination never waned. With fresh legs injected into the game, the home side began to carve out chances and apply sustained pressure in the Lisbellaw half.
In the end, the final whistle sounded with the scoreline reading 3-0 in favour of the visitors. While the result didn’t reflect the effort and heart shown by Coleraine, there were plenty of positives to take from a performance full of fight and resilience.
A huge thank you to Lisbellaw for making the journey, and we wish them the very best for the remainder of their season.
Coleraine FC Women will now regroup and look ahead to the next fixture with confidence and renewed focus.
