THE memory of Sean Mullan lives on after members of his family were invited to the reopening of a plaque dedicated to the former Coleraine player…
Sean, younger brother of former Coleraine forward Brendan, and a very promising player who had been an important part of the title-winning squad, died suddenly during a training session at The Showgrounds on August 15, 1974. He was only 21.
The winger made 62 appearances for the Bannsiders after making his debut in an Irish League game against Bangor on May 1, 1971. He would go on to score four goals during his time with the club.
Sean was a great player and great talent and put in a number of high quality performances during the 1974-75 pre-season before his sad passing on the eve of the new campaign.
A dedicated sportsman, Sean in his time graced both the gaelic football and soccer field.
During his three years at The Showgrounds, Sean earned the esteem of everyone who knew him.
A plaque dedicated in Sean’s memory in the Social Club has been given a makeover thanks to the Friends of Coleraine, with the help of Frankie Moffatt.
Sean’s family were invited guests to Tuesday night’s game against Cliftonville for the official reopening of the plaque to ensure he will never be forgotten.
