Shevlin hails ‘professional’ performance

COLERAINE striker Matthew Shevlin was understandably a happy man after netting his first hat-trick in senior football…

The marksman would put the visitors to the sword after netting three times in the 6-1 win against Barry Gray’s side.

Shevlin labelled the performance as ‘professional’ and thanked Lyndon Kane for letting him a penalty which secured his treble.

“We knew coming into tonight that we couldn’t take Warrenpoint lightly,” the ex-Linfield man told Coleraine TV.

“I thought we were very professional and got the win in the end.

“It was my first senior hat-trick and I probably should have got one the last time we played Warrenpoint.

“I must say thanks to Lyndon for letting me hit the penalty.”

Shevlin’s first goal arrived after just six minutes following a great ball from Conor McKendry and the 23-year-old confessed he had been feeling down after not finding the back of the net in his last four games.

“It was great getting an early goal,” he added.

“I was a bit down on myself for not scoring in our last four games as it was my biggest drought of the season.

“I was delighted to put that one away and I was buzzing.

“I’m happy with my own performances but obviously the team performance comes first.

“Seeing Coleraine win the Cup before looked great and I would love to be a part of something similar.”
