Shiels appointed first-team coach

COLERAINE FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Dean Shiels as the club’s new first-team coach…

Shiels will be no stranger to The Showgrounds after coming to matches with his father Kenny, before going on to have a playing career with the likes of Hibernian, Doncaster Rovers, Kilmarnock and Rangers.

The 39-year-old also won 14 international caps for Northern Ireland, scoring one goal against Luxembourg.

The former midfielder would end his playing career on the Ballycastle Road after joining the club in January 2019, where he made 12 appearances and scored three times.

Since his playing career came to an end, Shiels managed Dungannon Swifts in the top flight for more than two years, as well as being an assistant for the Northern Ireland Women’s team.

“When Dean left Dungannon in the summer, we were keen to get him on board but he wanted a break from the game,” boss Oran Kearney said.

“He has been at our games recently and has a real appetite to get back involved.

“He did a great job at Dungannon and we all know he’s a top-class coach.

“We are looking forward to Dean working with us and hopefully it can give us an added boost for the final games this season.”
