Smith to stay until the end of the season

COLERAINE FC is delighted to announce that Martin Smith has agreed a new deal to remain at the club until the end of the season…

The Englishman has been in fine form for the club since signing in October and has made 16 appearances, scoring 2 goals. Despite strong interest from other clubs, the 22-year-old has pledged his immediate future at The Showgrounds until June.

Coleraine manager Oran Kearney believes Smith has settled into life at The Showgrounds with ease and is happy to see the former Sunderland trainee remain at the club.

“We have been in talks for the last month to try and sort things out,” Kearney said.

“Martin seems really happy and settled here. He is a popular player amongst the squad and after being hurt by football recently, he seems content.

“This is great news for all parties and we are delighted to have him.”

Smith couldn’t hide his delight about the new deal and has targeted silverware this season.

“I’m delighted to extend my deal with Coleraine until the end of the season,” Smith said.

“To be involved during a special time at the club led by Oran and his staff, my team-mates and all the fans is something I’m grateful and proud of. It’s a great club and I’m proud to be a part of it.

“I feel that the job is only half done and our target is to win silverware, so I’m relishing that challenge that lies ahead of us.”
