THE result wasn’t what we wanted but despite the disappointment on Boxing Day, it was still a special occasion for Zane Okoro and his family…

Dad Stanley, mum Toyin and brothers Simeon and Cameron were all at the Ballymena Showgrounds to witness the festive derby.
Stanley has been over to watch his son before but for the rest of the family, it was their first time seeing Zane in Coleraine colours.
It was no easy task getting the family all together for the Christmas holidays.
“Mum and Dad reside in America as does Cameron who is in Los Angeles and I am in Birmingham,” explained Simeon.
“We knew Zane had to stay in Northern Ireland to play matches so we did a bit of planning on the family group chat and made it work so we could all get over here.
Despite the 2-0 defeat, the family enjoyed every minute of the game.
“Apart from Dad, none of us have seen Zane play yet for Coleraine so it was special for us,” Simeon added.
“It was nice to see such a big turn out from both sets of supporters.
“As a family it was good to see Zane get plenty of minutes.”
This is Simeon’s first visit to Northern Ireland and he is enjoying his stay.
“As well as being able to get to the Linfield and Larne games too, we have been able to spend time as a family and see the sights and what Northern Ireland has to offer,” he continued.
“I’ve been getting up for a few early morning runs down by the water and taking photographs. It’s beautiful.”
Zane’s older brother also revealed the Bannsiders have a growing following in the USA.
“Yes, a lot of Zane’s friends and mentors in the States have paid for a subscription to the One Football app so they can watch the Coleraine matches.
“Zane and I speak almost every day and he feels very comfortable at Coleraine.
“He has settled in well, is getting plenty of minutes and is receiving great support from the club and fans which means a lot to him.”
