Specials on Cue

COLERAINE footballers suffered their first defeat of the season last night…

However, thankfully for all Bannsiders, it was on the pool table rather than the football pitch.

The players, accompanied by boss Oran Kearney, were there to take part in the annual challenge with members of the Special Pool fraternity ahead of the opening games in the Northern Ireland Special Pool Championships.

With the scores tied, Oran Kearney selected Chris Johns to bring home the glory in a play-off, but despite playing well, Northern Ireland’s Sammy Johnston came strong at the end to the seal the victory for Northern Ireland.

It was a great night’s craic. The players enjoyed the opportunity to relax after a hard training session and with the Specials now 2-1 ahead in the annual challenge bragging rights, Coleraine will be back again at next year’s tournament intent on levelling the scores.

Thanks to Northern Ireland Special Pool Tournament Organiser Trevor Harte for allowing the use of the tables for the challenge match and the team leaders and helpers who accompanied the players during the challenge, and last, but by no means least, the Special Pool Players and the Coleraine players for such an entertaining and challenging tournament.
