RUAIDHRI Higgins says the Bannsiders will go as strong as possible as Coleraine begin the defence of their North-West Senior Cup this evening…

Coleraine welcome Newbuildings United to the Ballycastle Road at the quarter-final stage of the competition (KO 8pm).

The Stripes lifted the trophy for a record-extending 27th time last year as they beat Ballinamallard United in the final.

However, with Coleraine not in action last weekend due to Linfield’s European exploits, Higgins says they will use the fixture to get minutes into the players who need them, as well as a look at some of the club’s young talent.

He said: “It is going to be a mix of established senior players and those in the under-age squads.

“We haven’t played a competitive game since Glenavon and there’s players who need minutes…so they will be in contention.

“There are others who have played a lot of football since pre-season and were likely needing of a short break, so they won’t be involved.

“Supporters will also have a chance to look at some of our young exciting talent at the club.

“It’s a game we are taking seriously and we will go as strong as possible.”

After admitting that several youngsters are set to be named in the panel, Higgins acknowledged how it’s important for their development.

He stated: “There might be a few players who haven’t been involved at first-team level before and this will give them valuable insight as to how we work.

“It’ll be a good experience for them and it’s a tie that we want to progress in.”

Supporters are advised that a cash gate will be in operation – £8 adults and £5 concessions.
