Squad is feeling good: Shiels
HEAD coach Dean Shiels has acknowledged there is still a bit of hurt within the Coleraine dressing room after their last visit to Mourneview Park back in November…
The Bannsiders looked like ending a near six-year wait for a victory at the County Armagh venue as the led 3-1 with 15 minutes go.
However, Paddy McLaughlin’s men staged a late rally to earn a share of the spoils – something which Shiels and his players haven’t forgotten about.
Coleraine come into the contest after scoring ten times in their last three games and Shiels is hoping to use that momentum for the challenge ahead.
“We were delighted with last weekend as we saw that Championship teams are more than able to put out Championship teams, so we are delighted to get through,” he said in his weekly pre-match press conference.
“We seem to be feeling good in regards to the last three games, the performance levels are high, scoring goals and we are now looking to carry that momentum into Saturday.
“We’ve not won there in six years and with us going within five seconds of doing that the last time, there’s still a bit of hurt there in regards to how we finished that game.
“Looking at the positives…we were brilliant in the first half and should have ran away with the game.
“Hopefully we can learn from that, put it right but we know it’s going to be extremely difficult.
“If we can perform to the best, we are hopeful we can get the points.”
Shiels will have new signings Ronan Doherty and Patrick Burns available at his disposal as he gave a squad assessment before travelling to Lurgan.
He outlined: “Dylan Boyle is suspended and Cammy Stewart went off at half-time last week, which is a bit of an annoyance as we’re trying to get continuity within the defence.
“We will assess that as we go. Matthew Shevlin had an issue where we had to get him off at the end of the Armagh game, but we are hoping he comes through with no problems.
“Jack Scott has done a little bit of training so we are looking to see where he can help us in the coming weeks.”
