RUAIDHRI Higgins is hoping a large travelling support can get behind the players in tonight’s BetMcLean Cup semi-final against Glentoran…

The Bannsiders travel to The Oval as a spot in next month’s decider is up for grabs.

Whilst thanking the supporters for their excellent support to date – Higgins has issued another rallying call for those making their way to the capital to get behind his squad.

He said: “A strong away support would be huge.

“You saw the numbers that we took to Bangor at the weekend…it was an unpleasant day and not a great day at all.

“But they made the journey and it’s very much appreciated by everyone.

“We would love to take a huge following there to get right behind the team because we are much more powerful when that’s the case.

“We want to give them something to shout about as well and try and get ourselves into a big cup final.”

Linfield wait the victors from tonight’s proceedings in the decider and Higgins stated how there’s a determination within the ranks to spoil the prospect of a ‘Big Two’ derby.

“It is very much a new group and if we could get to a Cup final in our first year, it would be brilliant,” he added.

“There’s a lot of work to do to get there but we have an opportunity.

“Listen, we are not naive. We’ve been around the block as staff and we know that if you ask everybody before a ball is kicked, regardless of what Cup it is, people would like a ‘Big Two’ final.

“I’m sure the powers-that-be would like a ‘Big Two’ Cup final, so we have to do everything in our power to make sure that at the very least they have to fight for that.

“We will be going there trying to get ourselves into a Cup final, which would be special for us.”
