Tee to Green

THE Spirit of ’74 Coleraine Supporters’ Club would like to thank everyone behind yesterday’s Golf Day…

Golfers of all ages and abilities attended the Old Course at Portstewart and braved the elements for a fun-filled 18 holes.

A total of £1500 was raised for charity and Bryan McNeill, of the Spirit of ’74 Supporters’ Club, was thankful for everyone who sponsored and took part in the event.

“Many thanks to all the golfers who attended our golf day yesterday and despite the poor weather everyone had a great days craic,” he said.

“The competition was fierce and we had some great scores on the day, although there were a lot of first tee nerves which resulted in some very dodgy tee shots as Bovril can allude to.

“Luckily everyone settled down and proceeded to play some great golf.

“The object of the day was to raise some much needed funds for charity, we decided to split the funds equally between Pavestone, they are based at Rugby Avenue and do a lot of great work in the local community.

“Funds are also being given to JustGiving page set up by friends of young Danny Cassells, who is going through a tough time at the minute but is fighting hard and remaining positive.

“We could never have succeeded without the help of many local businesses who kindly sponsored all 18 holes, all these businesses have a close connection with Coleraine FC in some way and Spirit of ’74 are eternally grateful for their support.

“A total amount in the region of £1500 was raised but these things don’t organise themselves so thanks to the Spirit of ‘74 committee, Uel Kirkpatrick and Derek McFaull who sponsored the prizes.

“We place on record our thanks to Steven Friel for the great food and Mark Kane, Derek Stewart and Alan Freeman who were the barmen on the course.

“Also a big thanks to Portstewart Golf Club who kindly gave us discount on the golf fees.

“Lastly thanks to the bar staff in the Social Club for looking after us as we enjoyed the 19th hole.

“A special mention must go to Trevor McKendry, James McLaughlin, Adam Mullan, Cathair Friel, Matthew Shevlin, Gareth Deane, Conor McDermott and Andy Mitchell who gave up their time, especially after a tough day against Cliftonville.”
