The Bannsiders kick started their post-split fixtures in fine style as a brace of penalties in each half by Doherty sealed a 2-0 success against the Reds.

The midfielder was quick to praise for Matthew Shevlin for his bravery in winning the two spot kicks and that he had to remain composed for four minutes after Aaron McCarey’s dismissal.

Doherty – who took his goal tally for the campaign to 17 – described the post-split games as ‘cup finals’ as Coleraine next face Glentoran on Tuesday night.
