RORY McKee hails the Bannsiders for the start they’ve made to the season….
The 2017/18 season couldn’t have got off to a better start as far as Coleraine are concerned. Irish League fans up and down the country have been quick to heap praise onto the high-flying Bannsiders, who remain unbeaten in all competitions and four points clear at the top of the table as we enter the tenth round of Danske Bank Premiership fixtures.
So, what’s behind this terrific spell?
Manager Oran Kearney has simply put it down to hard work, with the Stripes’ work ethic there for all to admire.
It’s easy to get carried away at such an early stage, but you would imagine there will come a time when the so-called ‘big-guns’ stand up and take notice of what’s brewing at The Showgrounds – that’s if they haven’t already of course.
A convincing display which saw the Bannsiders take all 3 points at Crusaders, in addition to notable home victories at the hands of Glenavon and Cliftonville further shows the force Kearney’s men have become, and with winger Darren McCauley at his almost unplayable best, it isn’t hard to see why Coleraine are being touted as potential title contenders.
You only have to look at the tactics employed by a much improved Glentoran side in last month’s hard-fought draw to see just what an impact Coleraine are starting to make. Evident from the terraces, is that the boys seem to be playing with permanent smiles on their faces, there’s certainly a feel-good factor in the North West.
From the outside looking in, it looks as if the Stripes are only going in one direction, and that direction is up.
