To the Port

COLERAINE make the trip to Mullaghacall for the annual Wes Gregg Memorial Match against Portstewart this evening (KO 7pm)…

Pre-Season Friendly

Overview:

The Bannsiders made it four wins from their first four pre-season fixtures last weekend as they proved too strong for Danske Bank Premiership rivals Institute. A first-half goal from Jamie McGonigle had the Bannsiders well on their way, before Stephen O’Donnell, Caleb Wan and Jack Bradley netted after the break. This will be Portstewart’s seventh pre-season fixture after competing against Newbuildings United (3-2 defeat), Cookstown Youth (6-0 win), Ballymoney United (3-0 win), Linfield (3-0 defeat), Ballynure (7-0 win) and Dungiven (3-3 draw). The Stripes will compete against a few familiar faces as Mark Edgar, Glenn Law, John Watt, Saul McCaughan, plus others are currently playing for the Seahawks.

Recent meetings:

In the last two years, the Wes Gregg Memorial Match has proven to be an entertaining affair as they have both ended in 2-2 draws. In 2017, a young Coleraine side trailed by two goals but fought back in the second-half to earn a share of the spoils. Then, last year, Coleraine took an early lead through Jamie McGonigle’s powerful effort but strikes either side of half-time from Ryan Doherty and Lee Forgrave gave Portstewart the lead. However, the Stripes weren’t to be denied as McGonigle grabbed a second as he expertly headed home from Paul Owens’ delightful cross.

Team News:

It is expected that the Bannsiders’ squad will be a blend of the under-20’s combined with several first-team players as Oran Kearney’s troops are also in action tomorrow afternoon against Portadown.
