Tosh determined to succeed

LEWIS Tosh insists he was left feeling ‘inspired’ after being involved with the first-team squad during different parts of the season…

The full-back impressed in several pre-season outings and was an unused substitute on three occasions during the 2020/21 campaign.

The 16-year-old, who has just finished his studies at Coleraine College, admits sampling being in and around the first team squad has given him an added determination to make it a reality in the future.

“Being involved with the first team was an unbelievable experience,” he said.

“I think being a local boy meant that little bit more but it also gave me the determination to work harder.

“Being in the changing room with all the staff and players was inspiring.

“I think left back is my best position, I used to play left wing but the last three years I’ve took the left back role up.

“I look up to Aaron Traynor because he’s one of the best left backs in the Irish League and I try and take some of his qualities in a game into mine.”

Tosh, who lives in the Harpur’s Hill area in the town, is concentrating on impressing for the under 20’s in the year ahead.

“I suffered just a little knock earlier this year and recovered quickly and thankfully it wasn’t too serious,” he added.

“My aim is to try to push into the first team more but also have a good season with the 20s.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t have a season this year and it was hard training by myself in lockdown but now we’re back at it and I want to work harder to try get opportunities with the first team and become a first team player.”
