Town to Business against ‘Point

COLERAINE are back in action this weekend as they welcome Warrenpoint Town to the Showgrounds on Saturday (KO 3pm)…

By: Aaron O’Neill

Oran Kearney’s men will be hoping to emulate the success of last weekend’s emphatic 5-2 victory over Ballinamallard United at Ferney Park. A brace from Eoin Bradley combined with goals from Darren McCauley and Josh Carson as well as a debut goal for Aaron Burns ensured all 3 points.

The Bannsiders have enjoyed a clean sweep over Matthew Tipton’s side this season and will be aiming for more of the same this weekend. The Showgrounds presented the first meeting of the teams at the start of the season were Coleraine ran out narrow 2-1 victors.
The reverse fixture took place at Milltown in December and the Stripes enjoyed an early Christmas present with a comfortable 2-0 victory. Goals from Ian Parkhill and Darren McCauley secured the win.

The Stripes find themselves on a 16 games unbeaten run but Coleraine boss Oran Kearney is under no illusions ahead of Saturday’s game.

“It’s going to be another tough game for us but I think last week’s performance against Ballinamallard has set the template for how we must approach this game.

“It’s important that we get on the front foot and dominate those first and second balls so that we can reach the same level of performance from last week.”

A win on Saturday would keep the Bannsiders well in contention for top spot in the Danske Bank Premiership. The Stripes are currently 2 points off top having played a game more than Crusaders who are at the summit.

With only 4 league games remaining before the league split Oran Kearney’s side will be hoping to keep the pressure on top spot. With Aaron Burns deputising for the club last weekend and Brad Lyons making a return from injury the Bannsiders are almost back to full strength.

Stephen Dooley is continuing his rehabilitation from an ankle injury and remains doubtful for Saturday’s game. Striker James McLaughlin remains the only long-term absentee as he continues his rehabilitation after a cruciate knee injury.

As ever, those unable to attend can follow the latest developments via the club’s official Twitter account (@ColeraineFC).
