COLERAINE FC Academy Under-11s will contest the Subway NIBFA Under-11 Cup final in Belfast tomorrow morning...
The young Bannsiders will take on east Belfast club Glentoran in the decider which will take place at the Ulidia Playing Fields in Belfast. kick-off is 11.45am.
Coleraine have come through some tough games on their way to the final, none tougher than their opening game against competition favourites Dungannon Swifts.
The two teams were evenly matched on the day but the Bannsiders eventually prevailed on penalties against their much vaunted opponents.
Next up was a ‘derby’ game against Ballymena Utd and this proved a more comfortable encounter for Coleraine as they eased through thanks to a 4-2 win.
Local rivals Berties awaited in the third round and, again, a tight match ensued. For the second time in the competition, Coleraine players held their nerve to go through on spot-kicks.
East Belfast were Coleraine’s opponents in the last eight but they no answer to their opponents’ attacking threat, eventually going down 4-0, as Coleraine reached the last four.
Another tough game awaited Coleraine in the semi-finals but the Bannsiders showed grit and determination, and no little skill, to book their place in the showpiece final.
Coleraine, expertly coached by James Mulholland and Darren Howell, and ably supported by Dan Henry, start the final as underdogs but won’t be undaunted.
The squad has been together for a number of years now, playing through all the various age levels, and that has resulted in a tremendous team spirit.
Each one of the boys is from the north coast area and all regularly follow the fortunes of Rodney McAree’s senior players.
Let’s hope that the young boys can bring some glory to the Showgrounds.
