Vocal support gives us energy: Shiels
DEAN Shiels says Coleraine want to maintain their “good momentum” as the Bannsiders host Cliftonville in Premiership duty this evening…
The Bannsiders made it four games unbeaten last weekend as they earned a 1-1 draw at champions Larne.
A goal from Matthew Shevlin had given Shiels’ men the lead – but it was quickly cancelled out as Andy Ryan equalised for the hosts.
Speaking after the game, Shiels said his players were left “deflated” at not earning all three points in east Antrim but they are eager to get back to winning ways.
He said: “We’ve got really good momentum and there’s a good feeling amongst the group.
“I sense that the mentality is there and coming in I looked at the players and they were disappointed on Saturday and that shows you where we’re at.
“We’ve got two other big games to come…but I’m really proud of the players and the effort they showed at Larne.
“We’ve had really tough away games recently and I think it shows you where we’re at the moment that we are disappointed to come and draw at the champions.
“We can’t dwell on this and we have to go again on Tuesday.”
Shiels praised the fans for their support at Inver Park and called for the same vocal backing ahead of a busy week which also sees Coleraine host Portadown on Saturday.
“The fans were brilliant and you could see they were giving the players energy,” he added.
“The players were feeding off it and the fans believed and the players believed.
“We are disappointed for them heading home without the three points.
“We’ve won our last three away games and we got a point here, which takes us a bit closer to where we want to be.”
