Preview, Kane, Sports Direct Premiership
We have to kick on: Kane
LYNDON Kane says the Bannsiders are aiming to “kick on” as the Sports Direct Premiership enters the second-half of the campaign…
After completing the first 19 games of the season to date, Coleraine start the second 19 as they are the visitors to Linfield this afternoon.
Dean Shiels’ side start the day in 8th place but know a positive result could see them climb a few places in the standings.
With that in mind, Kane says the competitive nature of this year’s Premiership means teams are struggling to find any real rhythm or consistency.
“I said at the start of the season that the teams who probably strengthened the most are the ones who finished in the bottom-six last year,” he added.
“It’s been a mad league and I don’t really think anyone expected it.
“We are probably disappointed in ourselves, obviously you’re still in the mix when it comes to the European places, but we’ve dropped points when we shouldn’t have and not performed to the levels that we could have.
“We’ve had injuries and a change of team but we’ve a good enough squad that we all think we should be picking up results.
“It’s one of those ones where we look at ourselves now and we really have to kick on.
“Half of the league has gone in the blink of an eye…so it comes thick and fast.
“You go to Windsor Park now on Saturday and there’s no tougher test than that.”
Linfield are currently flying at the summit of the Premiership table but Kane remarked how the Stripes are travelling to the capital to pick up a positive result.
He stated: “You love going there to play. If you can’t get yourself up for a game at Windsor Park then I don’t know where you will, especially in this country.
“It’s the best stadium and they are top of the league for a reason.
“People talk about their form and not playing well – but they’re getting results.
“If you’re sitting top of the league then nobody can really argue with that.
“It will be tough, we know the way they play but we are going there to win.
“There will be tough moments but that’s where as a group we have to stick together and grind out.
“Hopefully we have something to hold onto…but we will play our own way and go for the win.”
