‘We need to be more clinical’ – Carson

COLERAINE midfielder Josh Carson knows that the Bannsiders will have to put Saturday’s defeat to Cliftonville behind them as they welcome Larne to The Showgrounds tomorrow night…

The Stripes lost for the first time in 17 matches at Solitude as goals from Jamie Harney and Paul O’Neill were enough to give the Reds a victory, despite Ben Doherty pulling a goal back from the spot.

However, speaking post-match, the ex-Ipswich Town ace insists the squad will have to take positives from the defeat.

“We are bitterly disappointed,” he said.

“Getting a defeat in the manner that we got it is not nice but we are going to have to take the positives out of it, dust ourselves down and go again tomorrow night.

“It isn’t a good result, we arguably should have had a penalty early doors and it would have made it a different game.

“The way the game went is frustrating for us all.

“I tried my best to clear the second one off the line.

“I don’t know if it was over or not but Aaron Traynor was in the stand and he said it was just over the line.

“I scrambled as much as I could to prevent the goal but I just couldn’t get there.”

The Bannsiders failed to capitalise on several openings in North Belfast and Carson know that they are going to have to be more clinical in front of goal

“It’s frustrating not taking our chances,” he added.

“It’s not through the fact we aren’t creating, we are, but just not putting them away.

“At the same time, it will come and we just have to be patient.

“Obviously at this stage of the game you need to be clinical and you need to be winning games and unfortunately that didn’t happen against Cliftonville.”

Coleraine welcome Larne to The Showgrounds and Carson is hoping for a repeat result from when the last time the two sides met.

“Larne are a top quality side with a lot of good players,” he concluded.

“We need to be at our best to beat them but we have done it before so we can do it again.

“Off the back of today, it’s not nice but we want to bounce back on Tuesday night.”
