DEAN Shiels believes his Coleraine players are finding solutions to win games as they host Larne tomorrow afternoon…

The Bannsiders had to dig deep to earn all three points against Dungannon Swifts last weekend as Jamie Glackin’s late strike was the catalyst in a 3-2 victory on the Ballycastle Road.

Coleraine are back in Premiership action on Saturday as they welcome Larne to the Ballycastle Road, with the Inver Reds four points ahead of the Stripes in the standings.

“I think we’ve got to keep the same belief in what we’re doing,” Shiels said in his pre-match press conference.

“We are trusting in our preparation…but we know they’ve got threats and good players.

“I felt the performance down at Larne recently was exceptional and we were really unlucky not to come away with three points that day.

“It’s about finding a way to win. We are isolating the games now and Larne are next and that’s the only one that matters.

“It’s about trying to find a way of getting the three points. It might be different ways and we are winning games differently now.

“We are seeing big players popping up in big moments like Dylan Boyle vs Portadown, Jamie Glackin vs Dungannon Swifts and Declan McManus at Glenavon.”

Shiels also gave a squad update as he confirmed that several members of his first-team panel are struggling through injury.

He revealed: “We’ve quite a few.

“Olly Doherty’s got a badly bruised foot which is unfortunate and we are not expecting Levi Ives to be back any time soon.

“Connor Murray is really struggling and there are one or two others with real issues.

“Dean Jarvis hasn’t trained this week and he went off injured against Dungannon, so we are still a few short.

“Kyle Spence is getting there in regards to full fitness…but we will have a look at that.”

Finally, Shiels was speaking publicly for the first time since Charles Dunne was named as the Sports Direct Premiership Player of the Month for March.

On the defender winning the accolade, Shiels stated: “I think he’s been exceptional since he’s come in, not just on the pitch, he’s got a wealth of experience and his attitude in the changing room and on the pitch means he drives standards.

“The lads have gone with him and I think he’s been a breath of fresh air since he’s come into the building.

“I think with the types of defenders we’ve brought in recently like Charles, Paddy (Burns) and Levi (Ives)…they love defending.

“The results have changed since Charles has arrived but it wouldn’t just be him, there’s been a collective to that.”
