Gawne Out

COLERAINE FC is pleased to announce that Alexander Gawne has signed a new two-year contract with the club…

The attacker’s contract was up at the end of this season but the new deal ties the 20-year-old down until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Gawne, who has been on loan at Carrick Rangers for the last two-and-a-half seasons, will return to the Loughshore Hotel Arena yet again for the entirety of the 2022/23 campaign.

To date, the Coleraine native has made 41 appearances for the Amber Army and bagged four times in the process.

Speaking about the latest development, boss Oran Kearney admits Gawne’s desire to gain more experience was a key factor in the move.

“Alex was coming out of contract and we were keen to extend his deal,” he said.

“He has progressed really well during his time at Carrick and developed into the rigours of senior football.

“We wanted Alex to come and train with us for pre-season, but to fair to him, he wanted to go back out on loan and gain more experience before coming back next year and challenging for a spot in the squad.

“We wanted to respect his needs and I totally understand his perspective, so we are delighted that he will play for Carrick Rangers next season and we will monitor his development.”

Everyone at Coleraine FC wishes Alex all the very best for the upcoming campaign at Carrick Rangers.
