Larne test will be a ‘different challenge’: Shiels
DEAN Shiels is expecting another “different challenge” as the Bannsiders make the journey to Larne for a tea-time clash in the Sports Direct Premiership (KO 5.30pm)…
Coleraine go in search of a fourth successive win in Premiership duty after triumphs against Linfield, Portadown and Glenavon in recent weeks.
Shiels acknowledged that his side have had to “find a way” to win those contests and is expecting another tough challenge at Inver Park.
He said: “Having watched the Glenavon game back…it was a tough, tough game.
“I think it was a game where we had the most chances, I think we hit the post and Matthew Shevlin was denied a one-on-one, where he was unlucky.
“I think it was just about finding a way to win the game and we spoke at half-time about a point not being enough and we wanted the three.
“The players deserve a huge amount of credit for sticking together and Declan gave us that little bit of quality to get the three points.
“This league throws different challenges at you.
“When you go to Glenavon it’s different to going to Linfield. At Linfield, we were outstanding in possession and the two goals we scored were really good.
“Each game gives you a different obstacle to find a way of winning and the next one will be the same.
“It’ll be a different game at Larne and we will need to have the same attitude of finding a way to win.”
Coleraine have kept five clean sheets in their last six games and Shiels explained that is down to hard work on the training pitch.
He further provided a squad update as Lyndon Kane is once again available after serving a one-match ban.
“The secret to that is hard work in training,” he explained.
“We do a lot of work out of possession…when the opponent has the ball 25 or 30 yards out, we’re getting up to the ball, getting pressure on the ball and we’ve a player getting pressure and a player covering.
“That comes from hard work and repetition. It’s a collective – it’s not just the back line or any individual, it’s a collective and five clean sheets out of six is very positive.
“We’ve a couple of slight niggles in regards to lads recovering from the pitch at Glenavon.
“Dean Jarvis has picked up a knock and Paddy Burns got hurt playing for the U20s so hopefully he’s not too bad.
“There are one or two others but hopefully come the weekend we’ll be back strong.”
