Belief is growing: Scott

COLERAINE Women’s manager Gareth Scott admits he was encouraged by what he witnessed despite losing out to Lisburn Distillery Ladies…

The Women’s team would lose 2-0 against the visitors in a competitive game at The Showgrounds.

Speaking after the game, Scott said: “Genuine progress for clearly all see is the message from the management team.

“The result is not reflective of the work that went in for this NIWFA Division 2 match against an experienced Lisburn Distillery side.

“Without talismanic skipper Shairee McVey, from the outside it may have looked ominous for the fledgling group, but the opportunity taken by the next girl up was a sign of a group growing in confidence.

“The football played at times was very positive and the result of a lot of excellent work and application on the coaching field.

“The belief of the group is the most pleasing thing and the positive reaction from a decent crowd has added fuel to this growing confidence.

“We are all learning, especially myself, about the women’s game and the process of gelling a new group into a playing style that can turn high level effort and fitness into deserved results.

“The club would like to thank the sizable crowd whose volume was such a positive contribution to another valuable development experience as we continue our journey.”
