Academy edge out Peacocks

FOLLOWING their defeat on Monay afternoon, Coleraine bounced back with an all important victory against local rivals Bertie Peacock Youths in the second day of SuperCupNI…

In a nervy first few minutes, Coleraine almost took the lead in a goalmouth scramble which was eventually cleared by Berties. The three man Coleraine defence of Jude, Jacob and Luke were composed at the back and were well protected by Ben in the anchor role in midfield.

Neither side could make a breakthrough in the first half and not many chances were created, although Danny stretched the Bertie’s defenders a number of times, but with no end product.

A bit of impromptu physio at half time gave new life to some tired legs and the boys came out strong in the second half. The deadlock was broken in the 37th minute when Tommy ran clear and showed great composure to place the ball past the Bertie’s keeper to give the Bannsiders the lead.

Bertie’s pressed for an equaliser but Coleraine stood firm to see the game out band take the three points.

Credit to both sets of players who gave their all in front of a large crowd on a very big pitch. Coleraine now face Glentoran at Broughshane this afternoon.

After the match, Coleraine and Northern Ireland legend Harry Gregg congratulated the boys, and gave special praise for Harvey in goal, who was very solid again today.
