Burns hails Coleraine duo

FORMER player Aaron Burns paid tribute to two current Coleraine players after announcing his retirement from the game…

Burns, who joined the Bannsiders from Linfield in January 2018 and went on to make 36 appearances, scoring seven goals in the process.

After spells with Ballymena United and Portadown, the 28-year-old has decided to hang up his boots after a problem with an Achilles injury in recent years.

He is still held in high esteem by the fans for his goalscoring performance in the Irish Cup victory over Cliftonville, but it’s a current Bannsider whom Aaron has hailed.

Prior to moving to Coleraine, Burns starred for many seasons in a successful Linfield side which included many outstanding players.

But none more so than Stephen Lowry it seems!

He told the Sunday Life: “Hands down the best player I played with was Stephen Lowry.

“For two seasons at Linfield, he was flawless and had everything. I was in awe of him.

“I played with some legends like Spike (Glenn Ferguson), but not enough games to name him, and Jamie Mulgrew, the most consistent Irish League midfielder for many years.

And who was the best player he came up against?

I used to hate playing against Aaron Canning,” he stated,

“When he was at right-back, very rarely did I get the better of him.”

Everyone at Coleraine wishes Aaron well in his retirement.
