Down Memory Lane

WITH the on-going help of club historian Hunter McClelland, colerainefc.com brings you the latest instalment of the ‘Down Memory Lane’ series as Coleraine fired in seven goals during an Irish Cup tie against Larne in 1966…

Date:

Saturday, February 12, 1966

Result:

Larne 2-7 Coleraine

Goals – Kernoghan (39 mins), Johnston (49 mins); Halliday (34 mins, 74 mins, 77 mins), Jennings (44 mins), Kinsella (56 mins), Peacock (71 mins), Curley (89 mins).

Report:

It took Irish Cup holders Coleraine nearly an hour to subdue an eager and at times dangerous Larne side in this 1st round cup tie.

But when they did get on top they ground the B Division side into the mud of Inver Park with a display of power football not seen there for many a year.

Larne equalised twice before Coleraine got on top. Ken Halliday hit his fifth hat-trick of the season and Bertie Peacock got on the score sheet again, with a well struck free kick.

Line-ups:

LARNE: Pollock, McKinstry, Johnston, Kearney, Conway, Humphries, Brady, Wilson, Kernoghan, Shields, Doherty.

COLERAINE: V Hunter, Jim Nicholl, McCurdy, Murray, A Hunter, Peacock, Kinsella, Curley, Halliday, Dunlop, Jennings.
