Eimear’s Wish campaign

COLERAINE FC is proud to support the Eimear’s Wish campaign in support of stem cell donor awareness in Northern Ireland…

The family of Eimear Smyth the young West Belfast woman who died on the 27th of June 2019 from complications of a donor stem cell transplant, have launched a campaign to raise stem cell donor awareness in Northern Ireland.

Per head of population Northern Ireland has the lowest number of people on the stem cell donor register.

“We want to change that and get NI into pole position. Six Irish Premier League clubs are backing Eimear’s Wish campaign and will be displaying large banners promoting Stem Cell Donor Awareness and encouraging their supporters to join the stem cell donor registry,” Eimear’s dad Seán Smyth said.

He added: “One of Eimear’s last wishes was for me to get as many people as possible to join the stem cell donor registry in Northern Ireland.

In addition to the banners the club will be promoting stem cell donor awareness on their websites and encouraging our supporters to join the stem cell donor registry.”

Sean concluded: “Eimear loved football. We are overwhelmed by the support our local teams are providing. Football is the people’s game, and what better way to give back to the supporters than by creating hope for people with life threatening illnesses such as blood disease.”

It is hoped that the banner will be at The Showgrounds ahead of Friday night’s clash against Crusaders.

Commenting Chairman Colin McKendry said: “As a club we had no hesitation in wholeheartedly supporting Eimear’s Wish.

“We would ask all Bannsiders to consider signing up to the stem cell donor registers and help those who need this life giving treatment.”
