Report:

COLERAINE secured their spot in the semi-final of the BetMcLean Cup after a 3-0 win against Dungannon Swifts at The Showgrounds.

The Bannsiders made three changes for the clash as Martin Gallagher deputised between the sticks, with Aaron Jarvis and Michael McCrudden also starting at the expense of Gareth Deane, Stephen Lowry and James McLaughlin.

The first chance of the game would see Josh Carson fizz a free-kick wide for the hosts but the Stripes would go one better nine minutes later as they took the lead. A fine pass by Lee Lynch released McCrudden inside the box and he found the back of the net.

On 22 minutes, the advantage was doubled as a trademark pass by Conor McDermott set Matthew Shevlin through on goal and the in-form striker made no mistake by comfortably dispatching past Declan Dunne.

The game should have been over as a contest just after the half hour mark as McCrudden blazed over the bar from close range, with Gallagher called into action for the first time on the stroke of half-time as he saved from Ryan Mayse.

Coleraine carried their strong momentum into the second-half and went close to making it 3-0 as Dunne made a brilliant stop to prevent Josh Carson from getting on the scoresheet.

The game was then disrupted by a raft of substitutions with chances becoming limited as McDermott was prevented from getting a shot on goal as Cathal McGinty put pressure on the defender.

With the game entering the final stages, Shevlin would fire a strike into the side netting, whilst at the other end, Gallagher would once again deny the Swifts as James Convie saw an effort saved.

However, the hosts would have a third goal to celebrate in added time as substitute Evan McLaughlin cut in from the right-hand side and found the bottom corner to set-up a last four clash with Cliftonville.
