Match Highlights vs Glentoran

COLERAINE TV highlights from the Bannsiders’ draw against Glentoran are now available to watch on the club’s official YouTube account…

The Stripes would remain in second spot in the table as a brace from Matthew Shevlin earned Coleraine a point – but it was almost all three as Glentoran profited from an unfortunate own goal by Josh Carson.

The hosts made a blistering start to the contest and almost took the lead on three minutes as Gael Bigirimana’s cross just missed a vital touch by Patrick McClean at the back post. However, Mick McDermott’s men would edge in front on six minutes as Robbie McDaid flicked the ball into the path of Jay Donnelly and he drilled a strike into the bottom corner. At the other end, Jamie Glackin showed great endeavour to chase down Rory Brown’s clearance but the midfielder was unable to steer his effort into the net.

Glentoran’s tails were up as Lyndon Kane had to make a timely block to deny Marcus Kane, with Martin Gallagher called into action to turn Rhys Marshall’s drive by the post, before Luke McCullough rattled the crossbar from a corner kick. Minutes later, free-kick specialist Hrvoje Plum whistled a dead ball just inches past the near post and Ruairdhri Donnelly blazed over the bar after linking up with his brother, Jay.

However, after weathering the storm, Coleraine drew level on 29 minutes as Glackin’s cross was headed in by Matthew Shevlin who got to the ball before the onrushing Brown. Ten minutes later, Glackin and Shevlin combined once again but McClean’s slide tackle denied Shevlin from hitting the target. Before the half-time whistle, Coleraine would have one final chance as a corner kick found Stephen Lowry at the back post but his strike was deflected wide.

Coleraine made a strong start to the second-half and threatened on 47 minutes as Shevlin flicked the ball into the path of Ronan Wilson. The midfielder had the vision and timing to release Glackin but he couldn’t force Brown into making a save. In a second-half of very little chances, Lyndon Kane was the Coleraine saviour as he was able to put enough pressure on Seanan Clucas so the midfielder failed to really test Gallagher.

On 70 minutes, Coleraine would take the lead as a ball over the top by Carson found Shevlin and he kept his composure to drill the ball into the bottom corner. However, that lead was short lived as Carson was involved in a tackle 40 yards out from his own goal and the ball looped over Gallagher and into the net.
