McGonigle and Harkin called up to Northern Ireland under-21 squad

COLERAINE duo Jamie McGonigle and Ciaron Harkin have been called up to the Northern Ireland under-21 squad…

The two players will be a part of the squad that travels to Albania on November 10 with the under-21 side currently sitting top of Group 2 with nine points from their opening four games.

This will be the third time that Harkin has been named in Ian Baraclough’s squad with the midfielder still waiting to earn his first cap. Meanwhile, McGonigle will be hoping to add to his two caps won against Estonia and Albania.

The call-ups mean that the Bannsiders’ Danske Bank Premiership match against Ards – scheduled for November 11 – has been postponed. A new re-arranged date will be released as soon as possible.

Stripes boss Oran Kearney has heaped praise on the duo for once again being called-up.

“It is a great honour for both players and I know they enjoyed their time away last month,” Kearney said.

“Jamie and Ciaron have hit the ground running this season and as a club we are proud of them.

“It is a testament to the hard work going on at the club and we hope both players represent themselves well.”
