Meet the Supporter: Dougie Wilson
LIFELONG supporter Dougie Wilson is the next to be asked a series of questions on all things Coleraine FC…
1. How long have you supported Coleraine?
I have been a supporter since Bertie Peacock stopped playing – so around 1976 was my first game.
2. What’s your first memory?
My first memory is the 1977 Irish Cup final against Linfield with my Dad – it was such a good result and performance.
3. Any funny stories from your time as a supporter?
There is a few! For example, I remember giving Mark McWalter a lift home. Or, meeting Wes Lamont at the airport. There are that many to mention.
4. Your favourite current player/past player?
Past player is Felix Healy – he had some set of legs and was a great player.
Current player is Darren McCauley – when he is on form he is a fantastic talent and has hit the ground running this season.
5. Your favourite away trip?
Going to Tottenham Hotspur in 1982. It was the year my first daughter was born – so what a special time for the family.
6. Your favourite goal?
My favourite goal was Johnny Black’s late winner against Cliftonville to put us through to the League Cup final. This season, I was behind Ciaron Harkin’s rocket against Glenavon…cracking strike!
7. Any favourite matches?
The 2003 Irish Cup final win – we waited so long to win a major trophy and the atmosphere was brilliant. Prior to that, the 1977 Irish Cup final. What a pair of teams.
8. If you could sign any player from another Irish League, who would it be?
Andy Waterworth – he has the pace to stretch defences and scores at least 20 goals every season.
