Meet the Supporter

Meet the Supporter: Peter Irwin

Our ‘Meet the Supporter’ series continues as Peter Irwin answers a list of questions on all things Coleraine FC…

1. How long have you supported Coleraine?

I have supported Coleraine for 17 years and haven’t looked back.

2. What’s your first memory?

My first memory of going to a game was receiving a free ticket through Primary School.

3. Any funny stories from your time as a supporter?

A notable one – can remember taking Johnny McNabb and Andy Platt to a game up in Belfast. My fuel tank was low, but felt I had enough left for the filling station. Unfortunately, I ran out in the middle of Antrim and we had to push the car to safety. Lovely!

4. Your favourite current player/past player?

Current player is Darren McCauley – when he is on form he is unplayable.

Past player is Stephen Carson – legend.

5. Your favourite away trip?

Coming home from the 4-3 win against Portadown was lively, as well as the trips to Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk. Think all the supporters enjoyed their two trips to Stranraer.

6. Your favourite goal?

Seems to be a popular choice, but Johnny Black’s late winner at Solitude to put us into the League Cup final. The atmosphere when that went in was electric.

7. Any favourite matches?

All of our wins on Boxing Day as it’s a special game. The comeback victory against Portadown, as well as the Irish Cup semi-final victory over Donegal Celtic. The wins in the Setanta Cup away at Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers. Our first match on Sky Sports against Newry.

8. If you could sign any player from another Irish League, who would it be?

Having watched Gavin Whyte recently – he has really impressed me.
