OK frustrated by not converting chances

COLERAINE manager Oran Kearney was left frustrated at his side’s lack of clinical edge as they were beaten by Glenavon at Mourneview Park…

The Bannsiders suffered back-to-back defeats in the Danske Bank Premiership as Matthew Snoddy’s late goal was the difference.

Coleraine would create numerous opportunities throughout the contest but they failed to find a way past James Taylor.

“I think performance and chance creation wise, I don’t think we have statistically created as many chances in a game this season,” Kearney told Coleraine TV post-match.

“We all know in football that the acid test is putting the ball in the back of the net.

“That’s not just hanging strikers out to dry as all over the pitch, in wide areas and defensively, we’ve had a huge amount of opportunities and when you don’t put those in the back of the net, you then leave yourself open to that sucker punch at the other end.

“It’s just a disappointing and frustrating day.”

Kearney pointed out that the decision to not send Glenavon defender Danny Wallace off couldn’t be used as an excuse for the defeat after Eoin Bradley was brought down when through on goal.

“He was fouled and to me it’s a red card,” Kearney added.

“It looked like a red card all day and it might have made the last half hour easier.

“However, I can’t shy away from the first 50 minutes before that as we had double figures in chances before that time.

“As much as I believe it should have been a red card, we shouldn’t need a refereeing decision to bail us out after 50 minutes by sending a player off.

“We have to look at ourselves in relation to the volume of chances we have missed today.”

Kearney revealed some good news as James McLaughlin made a scoring return for the U20’s yesterday afternoon, with Curtis Allen scheduled to commence full training in the near future.

“James played 45 minutes for the U20’s so we will see how he got on,” Kearney confirmed.

“Curtis isn’t far away from joining in full training.

“We will look forward to getting them two back amongst the ranks.”
