OK hoping rest pays dividends

COLERAINE boss Oran Kearney hopes the eight day break can kick start his players for another busy spell as they face Ballymena United tomorrow afternoon (KO 3pm)…

Danske Bank Premiership

Overview:

The Bannsiders have moved down to third spot in the table after Glentoran’s midweek win against Cliftonville at Solitude. Oran Kearney’s men were last in action over a week ago as Matthew Shevlin’s strike earned a share of the spoils against the Glens at The Showgrounds.

The Sky Blues know they can’t qualify for the top six as they were beaten by Linfield last weekend. United had equalised through Shay McCartan but lost out on a much needed result as Shayne Lavery blasted home the winner for David Healy’s troops. The final top six spot will come down to Crusaders and Glenavon who face Dungannon Swifts and Linfield respectively.

Previous meetings:

This will be the third derby clash of the season with both clubs registering a win for their efforts. The first went in the way of Ballymena United on the opening day of the season as Kofi Balmer’s header would prove to be the difference despite Josh Kelly’s first-half dismissal.

However, Coleraine avenged that defeat by picking up maximum points on Warden Street in February. A rare goal from Lyndon Kane would separate the sides who had ‘keeper Jordan Williamson sent-off for a lunging tackle on Stewart Nixon.

Manager’s Thoughts:

“It’s brilliant and I think the break is needed at this point in time,” Kearney said.

“At this stage I think our guys have given everything, both mentally and physically.

“That was eight games in about 24 days, it has been a crazy shift from that point of view.

“To be fair to our lads they have been brilliant, but I think we’re all looking forward to a rest.

“Ballymena are on a great run of form, and we know everything that comes with a derby match as well so we are expecting another tough game.
